Nick Mansley is an independent expert on investment and real estate issues. Nick studied economics at the University of Cambridge, investment at the London Business School and management at CEDEP (INSEAD). Nick has over 25 years of experience in investment markets and worked in both real estate and multi asset fund management in the City for nearly 20 years. He has advised Government, industry bodies, banks, real estate companies, investment managers and is actively involved in education and research alongside his consulting work.
Nick started his career as an economist providing strategy and policy assessments to the Government (covering topics ranging from real estate and regional policy to major infrastructure projects and technology) and a range of companies. After seven years he moved into investment management with Norwich Union (Aviva). Over the next 18 years he held a variety of roles on the real estate executive and global investment solutions executive including leading the global multimanager business which he grew from a small UK centric real estate and private equity function to a profitable global centre of excellence of over 40 investments professionals, across seven offices globally with c$20bn of assets under management.
Nick's interest in economics and applied research led to him establishing the Cambridge Real Estate Research Centre in 2013 with Professor Colin Lizieri to provide a focus for real estate related research and executive education at the University of Cambridge. Nick teaches strategy/governance, economics, finance and real estate courses at the University of Cambridge. He is also a regular speaker at industry events and conferences.
Nick is Chair of the Lord Chancellor's Strategic Investment Board for the Ministry of Justice, External Industry Adviser to the Official Solicitor and Public Trustee, and sits on the investment committee of the Hunter UK Retail Unit Trust and the UK executive of the Urban Land Institute. He was the Independent Director of Hansteen Property Unit Trust II (which was sold in 2015 generating an IRR of over 25% p.a. for investors), a Director/Member of Money Purchase Committee of the Aviva Staff Pensions Scheme and has been a member and/or chair of a range of other committees and industry groups over the years.
